Infocat is a virtual resource of disability and sexual and reproductive health information that unifies the library collections of Family Planning Victoria, Scope and Yooralla into a one-stop searchable website. Our vision is to make the unique resources of these organisations available on the Internet as a shared knowledge base.

A brief history of Infocat.
In 2001 Yooralla Library and Information Services approached Scope Information Centre to discuss unifying their library catalogues into one website for their clients, staff and others to access. They sought expressions of interest from other specialist disability resource collections and embarked upon a pilot project. In 2001 and 2002, Yooralla and Scope libraries worked together to seek funding sources for the project and developed a prototype union catalogue for in-house use.

In late 2002, Family Planning Victoria Library contacted Yooralla and Scope with the idea of using Koha, an `open-source' software for their online catalogue. The three organisations formed a cooperative alliance, and, with help from Strategic Data Pty. Ltd., developed Infocat in 2003.

Our thanks to all the hard work of Scope Librarian, Jane Watson-Brown; Yooralla Librarian, Carolyn Boyle; Family Planning Victoria Librarian, Jill Aron; Strategic Data's Adam Thick for making Infocat a reality through use of Koha software and Helen Radovic of Limelight Studio for design, layout and WC3 AA+ compliance. Thanks also to Clare Carlsson, former Yooralla Librarian, for the original concept of an online union catalogue.
